Young Leaders at Clapham Manor
Inspiring Tomorrow's Leaders: Our Year 5 Young Leaders
At Clapham Manor Primary School, we believe that leadership isn't something you wait to grow into—it’s something you can practice every day. That’s why our Year 5 Young Leaders scheme is such a vital, vibrant part of our school community.
As our pupils step into Year 5, they are given the opportunity to take on real responsibility across the school. Whether it’s setting up the playground each day, supporting younger children with their reading, delivering mail around the school, or supporting our youngest pupils in their PE lessons, our Young Leaders help make Clapham Manor a happier, safer, and more supportive place for everyone.
Why Year 5?
Year 5 is a transformative time in a child's primary education. By stepping up as leaders a year before their final SATS and transition to secondary school, our pupils:
-
Build Confidence & Resilience: Learning to manage small responsibilities, speak in front of peers, and solve problems independently helps build self-assurance.
-
Develop Core Life Skills: From active listening and empathy to teamwork and conflict resolution, leadership teaches skills that go far beyond the classroom.
-
Strengthen Our School Community: Younger pupils look up to our Year 5s. Having accessible, friendly role models around the school fosters a culture of kindness and respect.
-
Prepare for Year 6 & Beyond: Experiencing leadership early ensures that when our children reach Year 6—and eventually transition to secondary school—they already see themselves as capable, responsible individuals who can make a positive difference.
"Leadership is not about being in charge. It is about taking care of those in your charge."
Through training and ongoing guidance from our staff team, our Year 5 Young Leaders learn that leadership is fundamentally about service, empathy, and community. We couldn't be prouder of the dedication, enthusiasm, and care they bring to Clapham Manor every single day!
